New report on the impact of hospital pharmacy specialisation on patient outcomes

CTF Working Group 2 – New report on the impact of hospital pharmacy specialisation on patient outcomes

The Common Training Framework (CTF) project of the European Association of Hospital Pharmacists (EAHP) has a new publication. Working Group 2 (WG2) has produced a report on the impact of hospital pharmacy specialisation on patient outcomes. The authors reviewed over 70 published articles. Analysing both the conclusion of the articles as well as noting the education and/or specialisation of the pharmacists involved.

The report highlights how vital qualified pharmacists with postgraduate education are to patient outcomes. The majority of the articles showed a significant benefit of pharmaceutical interventions to both the quality and cost of care. The report also includes a graphic showing the different educational requirements for hospital pharmacists in Europe. Which clearly shows that European countries have recognised the need and benefits of a hospital pharmacy specialisation.

EAHP would like to thank the members of Working Group 2 and the authors of the literature review Roberto Frontini, Nenad Miljković and László Hovarth.
